What types of cookies do we use?
We use four types of cookies:
Strictly Necessary – Cookies are essential to provide you with the services you have requested, which means they cannot be disabled via the privacy settings link. For example, these include cookies that allow you to stay logged in to your Shopswiz account and leave comments. When you set your browser to block these cookies, these features and services will not work for you. In particular, we will not save your cookie preferences.

How long do cookies last?
Session cookies: these are cookies that stay only as long as your online session and expire when you close your browser.
Persistent cookies: these are cookies that stay on your device after the browser is closed and last for a time determined in the cookie (but not more than 13 months). We use these cookies when we need to remember you for more than one browsing session, such as your preferences from one visit to the next.
Why do we use cookies for advertising?
Increasingly, our readers finance us directly by purchasing a newspaper, taking out a print or digital subscription, or making one-time, regular, or monthly contributions. But to increase that number of supporters, we depend on marketing and still rely partly on advertising to fund our journalism. Therefore, cookies provide vital services to Shopswiz without sacrificing our independence or values.
How do we use cookies for advertising?
While you browse our site, some of the cookies and equivalent technologies we place on your device are for advertisement, so we can understand what kind of pages you read and are interested in. We can then display advertisements on your browser based on these interests. For example, if you’ve read many articles about food and drink, you may be seeing more food and drink advertisements from others.
Our apps integrate third-party software that provides information about how the app is used and what content you view for online advertising and analytics, similar to our sites. Some of our providers use cookies that are listed in the Privacy Settings, which are found in the footer of each page. The advertising procedures we use do not collect personal data such as name, e-mail address, postal address, or telephone number. We sometimes use information such as; your IP address and browser type. Also, sometimes we share some limited aspects of this with others for advertising purposes.
We also allow other organizations to use cookies and other technologies to help us analyze how our site is used, measure the number of visitors, and display advertisements. To achieve these goals, Shopswiz uses cookies, tags, pixels, and other web beacons to communicate information about you to others. Although some of this information is used only on behalf of Shopswiz, we also permit some of the selected third-parties to use cookies for advertising.
How do third parties use cookies for advertising?
We share and receive online data gathered through cookies and similar technologies with our advertising partners. In other words, you are on another website, and you may see advertising based on your browsing patterns on our sites. We may also show you advertisements on our sites based on your browsing patterns on other sites accepted by our partners.
Online retargeting is another form of online advertising. Online retargeting authorizes our advertising partners and us to show you advertising based on your browsing ways and interactions with other sites. Cookies may indicate that when you are on another site, you may see advertising based on what you have viewed on our sites. For example, if you’ve visited the website of an online clothing store, you may start seeing advertisements from that same shopping site that show special offers or show you the products you were browsing. This allows companies to advertise you if you leave their website without purchasing.
Other organizations also collect information about users on our sites through cookies, pixels, and tags. Tags and pixels, known as web beacons, are similar to cookies but are collected via embedded images.
Social Media
Sometimes we want to reach Shopswiz’s readers who use social media for marketing our products and services, such as our live events and Shopswiz job postings. We use cookies to help with this; for example, we place a pixel on our web pages that authorize Facebook to set cookies in the web browsers of Shopswiz’s online readers.
When a Shopswiz reader who uses Facebook returns to Facebook from our sites, Facebook can identify him as part of a Shopswiz reader group and, on behalf of Shopswiz, deliver marketing messages from us. Based on our agreements with these other companies, the data obtained from a visit to Shopswiz is limited to the URL of the pages that have been visited and, in some cases, to the status of any incomplete or completed business transactions undertaken with us. Along with the limited information a browser might transmit, such as its IP address.
In addition to the cookie controls listed below, you can unsubscribe by following this link if you are a Facebook user.
